We were asked to analyze a mobile blog post or news item to help us prepare Proximity's fall survey. Below is my summary of an article from CTOEdge on the vision Citrix Systems has to enable smartphones to access virtual desktop applications. I suggest we include questions on the fall survey designed to determine if this would be a valuable feature to end users.
What is Citrix's Goal? Citrix Systems will be teaming up with Open Kernel Labs to develop technology allowing end users to access their own virtual desktops via their smartphones. They will do this by creating what they call a Nirvana Phone. The Nirvana phone will allow users to access any desktop environment anytime and anywhere.
Why is this Significant?
The Nirvana Phone will make life easier for users. It will provide a way for people to access applications and important things from their desktop when they do not have immediate access to them. The phone will make more information and data available to end users. In the fast-paced business world, the Nirvana Phone would give more security to the average user because it would eliminate the fear of leaving something on the computer back home.
